Homework

There will be an assignment almost every day.  Always write the problems and show steps used to solve them.  My assignments are the minimum that I feel will help you understand the material and master the skills.  Every problem should be attempted, even if it seems difficult to you.  Homework can be collected and graded for accuracy and/or effort AT ANY TIME.

Materials

Non-graphing scientific calculator, graph paper, protractor/ruler

Notebook

Students are responsible for maintaining an orderly notebook.  Homework, notes, classwork, labs, quizzes, tests, and correction of past tests and quizzes should be organized and easily located.  Late work will not be accepted.  If assignments are left in your car, locker, etc., it is unexcused.

Extra Help

Additional help is available before and after school by appointment.  Students who have difficulty are encouraged to come for extra help before frustration creeps in and before test eve!

Tests & Quizzes

If you are present on the day of a quiz or a test, you will be required to take the test.  If you have been absent just prior to a quiz or test, your quiz or test will be evaluated with that in mind and you may be asked to redo all or part of a make-up before or after school.  Missing a review day does not excuse you from taking the test.

Make-Up Work

All make-up work must be taken care of within five days after an excused absence.  Any non-excused late work is not accepted and will be recorded as a zero.

Discipline

The goal of this class is to help students learn mathematics.  Any behavior that interferes with this goal will be handled accordingly. Any and all detentions will be held after school only.

Gateway Information

All students must demonstrate knowledge of the Gwinnett County Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum.  Students will be provided a booklet listing each of these AKS by course at the beginning of the school year.  Ninth graders enrolling in 1998 – 1999 and beyond will need to pass the Gwinnett County Gateway Assessment over the AKS before graduation.  The Gateway Assessment will measure students’ ability to write effectively about 9th and 10th grade science and 10th grade social studies.  The assessment will be administered in the spring of the 10th grade year.  Students will have several opportunities to retake the assessment if they are not successful the first time.
